Egypt to turn gas self-sufficient end-2018 – Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is on track to shift from importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be gas self-sufficient by the end of 2018 on the back of new gas discoveries.

The petroleum ministry is also collaborating with foreign partners to accelerate discoveries and develop fresh gas finds, petroleum minister Tarek El-Molla said.

This came on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the 16th International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting held in New Delhi, India.

The North African nation has exported a LNG cargo from Idku plant to the UK last week, according to Bloomberg News.

In December 2017, El-Molla said that pumping Zohr gas output into the Port Said treatment plant had started with an initial production capacity of 350 million cubic feet per day (mcfd).
