Egypt tops MEA region in FDI inflows in 2019

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt led the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2019, up from the fourth position in 2018, according to the fDi Intelligence division of the Financial Times.

The most populous Arab nation attracted FDI inflows of $13.7 billion with a share of 11.9% in the MEA region in 2019, compared to $11.4 billion or 8.4% in the prior year, the cabinet’s media centre said in a report on Monday.

However, total FDI inflows into the MEA region decreased by 14.9% to $115.2 billion last year from $135.4 billion in 2018.

The UAE came in the second position with investments worth $12.8 billion, followed by Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa with $12.3 billion, $10.2 billion, $4.8 billion, and $4.1 billion, respectively.

Globally, Egypt advanced to the 15th position in 2019, compared to the 23rd in 2018.
