Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is upgrading and maintaining the Ring Road around Greater Cairo at a length of 106 kilometres and at a total cost of EGP 7.3 billion, minister of transport Kamel El-Wazir said.
The upgrade is aimed at widening the Ring Road to accommodate larger traffic volumes, cut the travel time, and thereby reduce energy consumption, El-Wazir pointed out in a statement on Sunday.
In addition, the minister revealed plans to operate the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system buses on the Ring Road to decrease traffic congestion.
