Cairo – Mubasher: The number of Indian tourists who visited Egypt in 2018 reached 126,000 visitors, up from 60,000 tourists in 2014, regional manager of the Egyptian Tourism Authority’s (ETA) East Asia and Australia office.
Indians’ tourism expenditure in Egypt is high in comparison with their Asian peers, Ismail Abdel Hamid added in a seminar organised by the Indian embassy in Cairo under the theme of “Know India”.
Abdel Hamid called for boosting the direct flights between Egypt and India and promote the hotspots and tourism destinations in the two countries.
The Indian ambassador to Cairo will meet with the Indian tourism minister on Monday, 18 March, to discuss raising the number of visitors to the North African nation and cementing ties between both countries, he indicated.
For his part, Mohamed Youssef, chairman of Egyptian Businessmen Association (EBA), said that tourism accounts for 10% of gross global product and that nearly 10% of employment across the world incline to the tourism sector.
The tourism sector is likely to recover despite being affected by all kinds of accidents, Youssef added.
