Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's wheat imports reached 5.580 million tonnes in 2016/2017, compared to 4.440 million tonnes in the previous year, Mamdouh Ramadan, spokesman for the Ministry of Supply, told Reuters on Monday.
Egypt seeks to import 6.2 million tonnes of wheat in 2017/2018, Reuters reported.
The region's most populous country is also the largest wheat importer in the world, and consumes about 15 million tonnes of wheat yearly, according to official figures.
