Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt’s President Abdul Fattah Al Sisi said that the Egyptian army will defend the Arab Gulf region if its security is threatened, local newspaper Al Youm Al Sabaa reported on Tuesday.
“We are wholeheartedly supporting our brothers in the Gulf. If the security of the Arab Gulf region is jeopardised and faces a direct threat from anyone, the Egyptian people, even before their leadership, will not accept this and their troops will move to protect their brothers,” Al Sisi said at a media gathering on the sidelines of the second World Youth Forum held in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Responding to a question on US sanctions against Iran, the Egyptian president said: “Instability affects us all and any nation that has instability affects the whole region.”
On Wednesday, 31 October, Saudi Arabian troops arrived in Egypt as part of a joint exercise involving armed forces from other Arab countries and the Egyptian military. The exercises, called “The Shield of the Arabs 1”, began on Saturday, 3 November and would end on Friday, 16 November.
The exercises “would develop and strengthen military cooperation between the armed forces of the Arab countries,” Saudi Arabia’s military attaché to Egypt, Brigadier Abdullah bin Yusuf Al-Jasser said.
