Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt’s cotton exports increased by 77.7% in the fourth quarter of agricultural year 2015-2016, according to the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The surge in exports is attributed to the lower prices of the Egyptian product compared to other cottons in global markets, the statement indicated, as well as the decline in total exports in the same quarter in 2015.
Egyptian cotton exports recorded 139,900 quintals between June and August 2016, compared to 78,800 quintals in the same period last year.
India dominated 61.7% of the cotton exports, as it imported nearly 86,300 quintals, according to the statement issued by CAPMAS.
Local consumption of cotton also grew by 7.4% to 117,800 quintals compared to 117,800 quintals from 109,700 in the same period last year.
