Cairo- Mubasher: Egyptian exports to the US increased by 25.7% year-on-year in 2018, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Wednesday.
The state-run statistics agency added Egypt’s exports to the US reached $1.716 billion over the course of the previous year, compared to $1.366 billion a year earlier.
Readymade clothes led the North African country’s exports to the US, representing 46.3% of total exports value, amounted to $795.7 million in 2018, versus $726.8 million in 2017, with a 9.5% year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s imports from the US enlarged by 39.6% to $5.4 billion in 2018 from $3.869 billion in the prior year.
Cereals, oilseeds, as well as oleaginous fruits and plants led the country’s imports from the US, representing 21.9% of the total imported goods, with a value of $1.182 billion in 2018, compared to $391.8 million in 2017, an annual increase of 201.7%.
Meanwhile, the US investments in Egypt increased 4.5% to $4.6 million in 2018, versus $4.4 million in 2017, according to CAPMAS release.
