Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, on Tuesday affirmed that all government payment cards used to disburse state employees' salaries will be replaced with Meeza cards within one year.
The Meeza cardholders can withdraw, deposit, and transfer money from ATMs. Moreover, they can shop online or at point of sale (POS) machines and pay all government dues electronically through the state payment and collecting system, according to a press release.
During the first and second pilot phases, around 37,000 Meeza cards were issued. This comes in tandem with the presidential directives to implement a gradual move towards “Digital Egypt”.
The Egyptian finance ministry is speeding up to issue about 5 million Meeza cards in the coming period, the statement added.
