Egyptian wheat reserves sufficient for 5M

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade said that the country’s strategic wheat reserves reached 4.4 million tonnes, and are sufficient for five months, Reuters reported citing the ministry’s spokesperson.

Mohamed Sweed added that the reserves do not include wheat imports.

Egypt targets increasing wheat production from 8 million to 10 million tonnes within the next three years.

Egypt is the biggest wheat importer in the world, with imports of around 15 million tonnes every year, according to official statistics.
