Cairo – Mubasher: Egyptian President and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed, in a phone call, strengthening cooperation between the two countries and joining hands in fighting terrorism, according to Presidential Spokesman Alaa Yousef.
The two presidents also stressed the importance of consolidating efforts by both countries to take decisive moves against the Islamic State (IS) and agreed on the need for greater international security cooperation.
Russia's FSB security service said on Tuesday it was certain a bomb had brought down a Russian passenger plane in Egypt's Sinai on Oct. 31, joining Britain and the United States in reaching that conclusion.
"In the context of the efforts to find the criminals involved in the terrorist act against the Russian airliner, close cooperation was agreed on between the security services of Russia and Egypt," the Kremlin said in a statement after the leaders spoke by phone, adding that the intention was "to realise additional measures to assure the maximum security of air traffic" between the two countries.
