El-Sisi: Revenues from Suez Canal grow after new canal-cut

Cairo – Mubasher: Egyptian President El-Sisi stated that Suez Canal’s revenues had increased after inaugurating the new Suez Canal.

He said, “I heard some say revenues shrank. Definitely untrue! I assure it grew.”

The President did not reveal definite figures about the growth.

Earlier, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Mohab Mamish said dollar-denominated revenues declined in 2015 by 5.3% year-over-year to $5.175 billion from $5.565 billion.

Meanwhile, revenues in local currency rose 0.3% to EGP39.769 billion, compared to EGP38.619 billion a year earlier, the chairman added.
