Cairo – Mubasher: An electric train will be set up from El-Salam City to link between Greater Cairo, New Cairo, and Sharqia Governorate, the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Transportation announced in a meeting with the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) on Thursday.
The train will start operating in 2020 to transport passengers from Greater Cairo and Sharqia Governorate to new urban cities in East Cairo, including the New Administrative Capital, El-Obour City, El Mostakbal, Heliopolis, El-Shorouk, Badr, Roubiki Leather City, and 10th of Ramadan, the minister of housing, utilities and urban development Mostafa Madbouly said.
The NUCA will partially fund the implementation of the train, and the rest of the project will be funded by a Chinese loan, Madbouly added, assuring that a company will be established to consolidate lands surrounded by the stations of the projects in the new cities in East Cairo.
Hisham Arafat, Egypt’s minister of transportation, suggested executing economic projects at the main stations to generate return on the project, adding that the train will start working in 2020 to fetch approximately 350,000 citizen per day.
The Ministry of Transportation met with the 10th of Ramadan Investor Association to assess the number of vehicles needed to carry workers, ranging between 6,000 and 7,000 vehicles a day, Arafat said, noting that the electric train will be more practical and comfortable, and will alleviate traffic jams and reduce pollution.
