Electricity bill of Saudi education entities hit SAR 7.2bn/yr

Riyadh – Mubasher: Electricity consumption of the Saudi Education Ministry's entities amounted to SAR 7.2 billion per year, sources said on Thursday.

Making up about 20% of government's annual consumption, the Education Ministry plans to reduce the electricity bill to SAR 4 billion a year, Aleqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing the sources as saying.

The development of the Saudi education sector is a priority for the oil-rich nation, which is part of 2030 Vision, Mohammed Sayaf A. Al-Khashil, member of Council of Saudi Chambers said.

The kingdom has allocated 22% of the 2018 budget for education, Al-Khashil added. 

Over the coming period, Tatweer Buildings Company’s (TBC) will cooperate with the Saudi Ministry of Education to establish educational buildings across the GCC country, company CEO Fahad Al-Hammad said.  

The first phase of the cooperation programme will include implementing 60 schools, the CEO noted, adding the combined investments of this project will reach about SAR 1 billion.
