Dubai — Mubasher: Emirates announced that the number of its passengers reached as much as 59 million in 2018 through 3,700 passenger flights per week.
The Dubai government-owned carrier said it served a menu of more than 66 million meals on its flights departing the GCC emirate, along with moving close to 36 million pieces of baggage in Dubai to its 157 destinations.
Over the course of the previous year, Emirates saw the operation of over 192,000 flights through its fleet of 274 planes travelling more than 908 million kilometres around the world, Arabian Business reported.
Commenting on the airline’s 2018 performance, Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates, said, “Our ambitions have always been driven by a commitment to continual improvement - to make the customer experience better, and to make our business operations more efficient.”
In spite of facing a plethora of challenges last year, Emirates has forged ahead with maximising opportunities by its capacity to best serve customer demand, in addition to “keeping a close watch on our costs, utilising technology to improve business performance, as well as developing more customer-centric products and services,” he added.
In 2018, the world’s largest international airline allocated $150 million for upgrading its Boeing 777-200LR fleet.
After receiving new planes, Emirates launched four new routes, added fresh frequencies to 20 destinations, in addition to upgrading capacity to eight cities.
