Dubai – Mubasher: Emirates Airline’s deal with European planemaker Airbus to acquire 36 A380 jets has hit a stalemate over engine performance.
Emirates’ negotiations with Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc over buying more than 36 additional double-decker planes at a total value of $16 billion has “hit a snag.. on price and fuel burn on an engine that’s already falling short of performance parameters,” informed sources told Bloomberg News.
This in return can cause a delay of Airbus jets deliveries and even scrap the whole deal, the sources added.
The deal, seen as a life-saver for Airbus, includes a confirmed order for 20 planes, along with an option for further 16 aircraft.
“Some of the new A380s we’ve just ordered will be used as fleet replacements. This order will provide stability to the A380 production line,” said Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates’ chairman.
The new jets are planned to be delivered in 2020, Emirates, the world’s largest airline by international passengers, revealed.
