Emirates Airline to receive first Boeing 777X jet by 2020

Dubai – Mubasher: Emirates Airline, which is fully-owned by the Dubai government, is expected to receive the first Boeing 777X plane sometime during the first six months of 2020, the company’s president Tim Clark revealed at a press conference on Sunday.

The new planes are part of the deal with the US’ Boeing signed in 2013 to purchase 150 of 777X aircraft in a $65 billion deal, along with the rights to another 50 jets, Clark added.

The Emirates Airline is planning to receive the rest of 777X jets with the same first-class cabins unveiled on Sunday, which were added to Boeing the 777-300ER aircraft, Clark continued.

All of the 777 jets will be equipped with the new cabins, the airline's president revealed, noting that Emirates is projected to receive eight or nine planes in 2018.

The top official did not release the sum invested in the new cabins, but commented that the expected returns of the cabins' adjustments exceed the company’s investment value, in addition to meeting passengers’ needs.

When asked about whether the company will purchase Airbus A380 jets, the world’s largest passenger jet, or not, Clark answered: maybe yes…maybe no.

Earlier in November, Reuters reported that Emirates was set to purchase about 36 or 38 Airbus A380 superjumbo jets in consideration of around $16 billion, according to an unnamed source.

Emirates Airline is the largest buyer of A380, with 142 on order and 100 already delivered, Reuters reported.
