Emirates Foundation, Google to launch $300,000 Arabic language initiative

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi government has partnered with Alphabet Inc's Google to launch Arabic language digital skills initiative “Maharat min Google”.

Through its charitable arm, the US tech giant will grant the UAE's Emirates Foundation $300,000 to expand the scope and distribution of its Maharat min Google training programmes in the GCC nation, Arabian Business reported.

Commenting on the new partnership with the American technology firm Mohamed Al Hosani, director of Programs at Emirates Foundation, said, “Our partnership with Google is a critical part of our model of Youth Development which is about solving social problems systemically and at scale.”

The Emirates Foundation is an Abu Dhabi Government initiative which seeks to create jobs for youth.

“We look forward to working with Google – only collectively can we achieve our goal of creating a positive and permanent impact on the lives of young people in the UAE,” he added.

The new digital programme will train a number of 5,000 unemployed youth in rural areas and underserved communities in a bid to help them find suitable jobs.

The programme targets training around 50% of the total number of unemployed youth.

Launched in April, Maharat min Google has delivered training to more 100,000 students across the Middle East, amassing over 560,000 hours across 100 lessons and 26 core topics.

Around 26 topics in digital marketing are considered by the initiative including search engine marketing, social media, video, e-Commerce, and data analytics.
