Cairo – Mubasher: Emirates NBD- Egypt board member Sahar El Damati said that the bank canceled the decision to deactivate the debit and credit cards outside Egypt, as per the clients’ requests.
Emirates NBD- Egypt will issue foreign currency-denominated cards in the third quarter of 2016, Al Damati told Mubasher.
Reuters reported Tuesday citing an SMS sent by the bank to its clients that the bank will deactivate debit and credit cards outside Egypt on 24 July.
Egypt faces shortage in hard currency following the decline of the revenues of the Suez Canal, tourism, exports and remittances of Egyptians working abroad, which are all considered the country’s main foreign currency sources.
