Emirates bolsters airport customer service with world’s 1st biometric path

Dubai – Mubasher: UAE-based carrier Emirates on Monday announced plans to roll out biometric services at the Dubai International Airport.

The move comes as part of the airline’s effort to speed up check-in measures at the UAE airport.

The biometric equipment has been deployed at the Emirates Terminal 3 in Dubai International Airport, the UAE aviation company said in a statement on Monday.

“Utilising the latest biometric technology – a mix of facial and iris recognition, Emirates passengers can soon check in for their flight, complete immigration formalities, enter the Emirates Lounge, and board their flights, simply by strolling through the airport,” the airline revealed.

Passengers can self-check-in at kiosks where biometric equipment, Emirates added, noting that counters with biometric equipment will be marked.

At the moment, this technology is available at select check-in counters at the Emirates Lounge in Concourse B for premium passengers and at select boarding gates.

"Once its internal tests are completed, Emirates will shortly launch trials for biometric processing at the other key customer points at the airport – check-in, lounge, and boarding gate – and subsequently at transit counters/gates, and for its chauffeur drive services," a statement from the airline said.

Dubbed the “biometrics path,” the new equipment will be introduced and linked with the Smart Tunnel project, which was launched by Emirates in collaboration with the General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners in Dubai (GDRFA) last year.

New biometric equipment trails were launched on 10 October, Emirates noted, adding that its customer trails will start soon.
