Emirates encourages unpaid voluntary leave for coronavirus concerns

UAE – Mubasher: Emirates has called upon its staff to take voluntary unpaid vacations due to the coronavirus outbreak, which led to an increasing number of flight cancellations, the airline’s spokesperson told Zawya.

Earlier, the UAE-based airline sent an email to its staff, admitting that the company is facing a measurable slowdown, pressured by the impact of the new virus epidemic.

In this regard, the spokesperson remarked: “The leave we are asking employees to take is voluntary. It is the employee’s discretion if they want to take it or not.”

Amid the decline in the number of flights, experts forecast airliners worldwide could see $29 billion losses in annual revenues for 2020.
