Emirates refunds AED 5bn to customers

UAE - Mubasher: Emirates Airline has refunded more than AED 5 billion ($1.4 billion) related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) travel refunds to date, according to a press release on Monday.

Since March, over 1.4 million refund requests have been completed, including requests received from customers around the world up until the end of June.

These requests account for 90% of the airline's backlog.

The airline has coordinated with industry partners to facilitate refunds for those who have booked their Emirates flights prior to the suspension of flights amid the COVID-19 pandemic through travel agents.

Commenting on the company's commitment to refunding its customers, the President Emirates Airline, Sir Tim Clark, said: "Most cases are straightforward, and these we will process quickly. But there are cases which will take a bit more time for our customer teams to manually review and complete."

The airline currently operates flights to more than 80 cities across the world, as the restrictions on global travel markets started to be lifted.
