Dubai – Mubasher: Emirates airline announced that it will cut its flights by 25% on the back of developing Dubai International Airport’s southern runway.
Flights will be cancelled or re-timed due to the closure of the northern runway, one of the two at the airport, the Dubai government-owned carrier said in a statement.
The runway is scheduled to be closed during the period between 16 April and 30 May.
It is worth noting that Dubai airport handles an average of 1,100 aircraft movements per day.
In 2014, Dubai International operated with one runway for 80 days due to maintenance.
“This will be a challenging year for Emirates and it's likely there will be a financial impact for its full-year earnings ending 2019,” Saj Ahmad, chief analyst at StrategicAero Research, said.
