Emirati mogul eyes dragging iceberg to UAE

UAE – Mubasher: Emirati businessman Abdulla Alshehi has unveiled his future plans to tow an Antarctic iceberg to Australia or Africa late 2019, the Daily Mail reported.

The Antarctic iceberg will be dragged to either Cape Town or Perth as a test run at a cost of $80 million, Alshehi told the UK-based tabloid.

The project plans to face risks of draughts that could hit the UAE over the coming years as a hunk of ice measuring 1.2 miles by 550 yards is expected to be chosen via satellite and be taken to the GCC state.

This mission aims to provide the Emirates with a steady source of fresh drinking water, along being a tourist attraction.

The selected block for use in the UAE is expected to lose around 30% of its mass during its ten-month journey from Heard Island, near Antarctica, to the Fujairah coast.

The final project will cost between $100 million and $150 million, according to the tabloid.
