Energy, banks stocks weigh on ADX Wednesday

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) closed Wednesday on a low note, its second in a row, amid pressure from the energy and banks sectors.

The general index shed 0.19% or 8.13 points and closed at 4,358.98 points.

Turnover dropped to AED 138.53 million from AED 204.06 million on Tuesday, while traded volume edged up to 62 million shares traded versus 61.85 million.

The energy sector declined 0.75% after newly-listed ADNOC Distribution retreated 3.30%, leading losers, while TAQA fell 1.69%. On the other hand, Dana Gas increased 1.45%.

ADNOC Distribution was the most active on the ADX with a turnover of AED 35.05 million and volume of 13.19 million shares exchanged.

The banks sector also fell 0.74% after Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) and First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) went down 2.73% and 0.49%, respectively.

On the positive side, the telecom sector and its stock Etisalat increased 0.58% each, while the real estate sector grew 0.25% after Aldar Properties gained 0.46% on the back of positive news of a new acquisition.
