Ethydco launches $100m tender for polybutadiene production

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (Ethydco) is currently launching a tender for implementing the polybutadiene project with $100 million in investment, chairperson Abdel Meguid Hegazy said in a statement to the petroleum ministry.

The new project targets the production of 36,000 tonnes of polybutadiene per year, Hegazy highlighted.

The new product will be used in 13 industries, including car wheels and construction industries, he added.

The Egypt-based petrochemical firm has succeeded in boosting its export market to 52 countries from 21 in 2017, including the US, Latin America, Russia, and the Nile Basin countries, he pointed out.

The company’s total sales of polyethylene amounted to around 351,000 tonnes at the end of December 2017, while total sales of butadiene reached 5,600 tonnes, he noted.

This came on the sidelines of Ethydco’s general meeting, presided over by petroleum minister Tarek El-Molla, to approve the 2017 financial results.
