Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Emirates Telecommunications Corporation Group (Etisalat) has commenced a series of experiments on the fifth generation (5G) of mobile networks, said Etisalat senior vice president of mobile networks Saeed Al Zarouni on Monday.
The 5G technology will be deployed in the UAE by 2020, Al Zarouni added.
“Today Etisalat’s investments in the future will play a key role in bringing growth and innovation in the country also laying the foundation for smart city development,” the top official said in a statement.
“Our field test today at Gitex Technology Week is a significant step in validating the performance of 5G in high frequency band,” Al Zarouni stated.
On Saturday, Etisalat Group’s CEO Saleh Al Abdooli told Mubasher that Etisalat was set to complete the preparation of the infrastructure and the current telecommunication systems in accordance with the international standards of 5G mobile networks.
By 2020, Etisalat aims to make its 5G network “one of the fastest, smartest and most advanced networks in the world to ensure that visitors enjoy an exciting, digitally enhanced experience,” Al Abdooli had said in an emailed statement.
