Dubai - Mubasher: Expo 2020 Dubai has become the first commercial location in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region to access 5G service following an agreement with Emirates Telecommunications Group, the provider of the new technology.
The 5G technology will serve millions of the major event’s visitors and will be a “key component” of its smart site, according to a company statement.
“At Expo 2020 we plan to optimise every visitor’s experience by digitally connecting them with their surrounding environment and enriching their interactions throughout the Expo journey,” Mohammed Alhashmi, senior vice president for innovation and future technology at Expo 2020 Dubai, commented.
Next-generation 5G network will provide Expo 2020 Dubai attendees with internet service that is 20 times faster than 4G, enabling them to stream live 4K resolution video with no log, Etisalat revealed.
“Our ability to provide 5G services to Expo 2020 is only possible due to our commitment to invest in line with our strategy to ‘Drive the Digital future to empower the society’,” Saeed Al Zarouni, senior vice president for mobile network at Etisalat, said.
The new technology is expected to contribute to the enhancement of autonomous driving, the Internet of Things (IoT), and industrial automation.
Expo 2020 is scheduled to take place from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 and is expected to attract 25 million visits from all over the globe.
