Extreme caution seen crippling Qatar bourse - Analyst

By: Eslam Salem

Doha - Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) is negatively affected by the weak liquidity, as investors are waiting for news and catalysts that force them to reinject cash into the market, financial analyst Abdul Salam Al-Amiri told Mubasher.

“The gains achieved two days ago were a result for a single-day 8% rebound in oil prices,” Al-Amiri explained.

“Yesterday’s selling spree was unjustified and was merely triggered by lack of investor confidence,” he added, insisting that traders are too cautious.

Al-Amiri said that large-scale liquidation operations are moves taken by speculators rather than investors, as experienced traders would at least hold on to some stocks so that they can potentially make gains on the long run.

The bourse’s main index closed Monday at the level of 8,848.86 points after falling 1.48% or 132.75 points.
