Financial and Services sectors boost MSM index at close

Mubasher: The main index of the Muscat Securities Market (MSM) rose 0.83% or 41.14 points to 5,003.68 points at Monday’s close.

The rise in the main index was influenced by the major stocks’ positive performance, as Al Madina Investment, Gulf Investment Services and Bank Muscat increased 3.17%, 2.74%, and 2.66%, respectively.

The services sector gained 0.55%, with seven stocks rising, topped by Vision Insurance with 4.17%; however, the drop in Sharqiyah Desalination’s stock, which declined 8.86%, leading the losing stocks, did not weigh on the sector.

The financial sector increased 0.5%, backed by the rise of eight of its stocks, led by Bank Nizwa and Al Sharqiya Investment, with 2.2% and 2.04%, respectively.

The industrial sector also went up 0.11%, after Oman Fisheries and Galfar Engineering gained 2% and 1.43%, respectively.

Trading volume dropped to 18.42 million shares versus 88.53 million shares on Sunday, as trading value declined to OMR 3.28 million versus OMR 15.34 million the day before.
