First driverless grocery vehicle to be launched at Dubai’s Expo 2020

Dubai - Mubasher: Dubai is set to welcome the world’s first driverless grocery vehicle, projected to launch during the Dubai Expo 2020.

The new project is currently being put through the paces in the United States, Khaleej Times reported.

The project was initially created by former Emirati entrepreneurs Ali Ahmed and Emad Rahim and Armenian car expert Tigran Shahverdyan.

The Silicon Valley startup Robomart, which was launched last year, is currently undergoing commercial runs in the US.

"We are speaking with a number of retailers and partners about potentially deploying pilots in Dubai. Our first pilots are in the US, but we may decide to pilot Robomart in Dubai soon after, subject to regulatory approvals," Ahmed told Khaleej Times during GITEX Week 2018 in Dubai.

He further added that the new vehicle was likely be launched in collaboration with Etisalat.

Robomart recently tweeted that Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum visited the project at GITEX 2018, where he met with Robomart’s co-founders and discussed the future of autonomous retail.

The five-day event, that commended on Sunday, 14 October and concludes on Thursday, 18 October at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC), welcomes more than 4,100 exhibitors who will exchange expertise on various technology-related fields, notably the state-of-the-art 5G technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) and smart cities.
