Flydubai compensation program for victims’ families ‘2-phased’

Dubai-Mubasher: Flydubai will compensate the families of the passengers who died in the carrier’s plane crash in Russia through “a two-phase programme,” Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith said.

The airline will give $20,000 to the families as a first payment, while the second will be paid after investigations are completed, Al Ghaith added in a press conference at Dubai.

FlyDubai earlier announced that its jet run under the code FZ981 has crash-landed at Rostov-on-Don airport in southern Russia, killing all 62 passengers.

“We should not make speculations on the cause of the accident, but rather, we’ll give investigating authorities enough time to do their job, he reiterated.

“We have a team of trained experts in Russia and Dubai to collect information to determine what caused the crash,” CEO noted.

“Our flights will continue and we had not cancelled any flights,” Al Ghaith continued.

Material losses are not determined yet as Flydubai’s current focus is on compensating the victims’ families and supporting the investigations, he added.

“We will not announce the victims’ names until we are sure,” he said, adding that “We are preparing to help the victims’ families who want to visit the location of the crash.”
