Foreign purchases of Egypt’s debt instruments up to $7.4bn

Cairo - Mubasher: Foreign investments in Egyptian debt instruments grow to $7.4 billion in the in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017/2018.

Investments in the Egyptian treasury bills and bonds totalled $7.4 billion in Q1-FY17/18, compared to only $55 million for the same period in the year before, according to the data of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

The Egyptian minister of finance, Amr El Garhy previously noted that foreign investments in Egyptian debt instruments totalled $19 billion since the CBE’s decision to free exchange rate on 3 November 2016 until 6 December 2017.
