Riyadh – Mubasher: French utility EDF plans to take part in Saudi plans to establish nuclear power reactors, said the CEO Jean-Bernard Lévy.
“EDF wants to take part in the country’s move away from relying on fossil fuels for its energy supplies,” Reuters reported, citing Lévy as saying.
“We will respond to this opportunity in all the energy technologies in which we have competencies, that is in solar, wind and nuclear,” Levy added.
In November, informed sources stated that EDF plans to participate in a tender to build two nuclear reactors in the Kingdom.
The French firm also plans to participate in King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE).
EDF was in talks with Saudi government about selling Areva-designed European Pressurized Reactors (EPR), but it has not publicly confirmed it will bid the offer.
