Dubai – Mubasher: France-based Alstom plans to implement further expansion in the UAE through investing in sustainable transport projects such as metro and tram.
Alstom’s business in the UAE increased to EUR 2 billion after winning a contract to extend the Route 2020 Dubai Metro's Red Line to the Expo 2020 venue in Dubai.
Alstom’s stake in this project amounted to EUR 1.3 billion.
The French train-maker will also carry out Dubai tramway project which will cost about EUR 700 million.
Route 2020 works are undergoing with 15-kilometre length, Alstom GCC's managing director Thi Mai Tran said, adding that it is expected to be operational by spring 2020.
Alstom’s MENA and Africa business registered a 14% growth during the fiscal year 2016/2017 at the level of orders, Tran added.
