French firm pens EUR 1.14bn Cairo Metro Line 3 operation contract

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) signed a contract with France’s RATP Dev for the management, operation, and maintenance of Cairo Metro Line 3 (Cairo University - Imbaba - Abassia - Adly Mansour).

The partnership is the first of its kind in Egypt as the government adopts a plan to develop the urban transportation sector in Greater Cairo, Alexandria, and other governorates, the Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir said in a statement on Tuesday.

The French firm has been awarded the 15-year contract, valued at EUR 1.138 billion, in a bid to relieve the burden on the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operations which manages and operates the first and second lines of Cairo Metro as well as the first, second, and fourth phases of the third line.

The agreement was signed between the Chairman of RATP Dev, Laurence Batlle, and the Chairman of NAT, Essam Waly.
