Futtaim Carillion awarded AED 2.2bn Expo 2020 tender

Dubai – Mubasher: Al Futtaim Carillion on Thursday announced winning a tender by the Dubai Expo 2020 worth AED 2.2 billion ($600 million).

The tender is the first in a series of tenders worth a total value of AED 11 billion ($3 billion) that will be launched by the Dubai Expo 2020, according to a statement by the Dubai government.

Al Futtaim Carillion will be the main contractor in charge of establishing a number of main buildings, the statement showed.

Under the deal, the company will develop three districts at the expo site, which will likely include as many as 136 pavilions for the upcoming exhibition.

Apart from the AED 11 billion contracts, the expo announced last week an additional AED 360 million in commercial deals, noted Ahmed Al Khatib, vice president for real estate at Expo 2020.

"With the Theme Districts construction award, we are starting the main phase of buildings and construction," Al Khatib revealed, adding that “all excavation works for the Theme District basements have been completed and are ready for the appointed contractor to begin construction."

Al Futtaim Carillion is a joint venture that is 51%-owned by Dubai-based Al Futtaim and 49%-owned by London’s Carillion Construction Overseas Ltd, part of the Carillion group.
