GCAA bans Boeing 737 MAX on Ethiopian crashes

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher:  The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority on Wednesday announced that it has issued a safety decision banning the operation of all Boeing 737 MAX models in the UAE's airspace.

The decision, which follows the Ethiopian Airways crash involving a Boeing 737-8 MAX, will become effective starting from 13 March until further notice.

The ban aims at protecting public safety in the air and on the ground.

The authority will continue monitoring and re-assessing the situation until receiving more information about the accident, it said.

Similarly, the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) in Kuwait announced the suspension of all operations related to Boeing 737 Max-8 aircraft.

It is worth noting that up to 33 nations and around 30 airlines have decided to ground the fuel-efficient aircraft within two days. GCC members Oman and Kuwait took similar moves on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Earlier this week, several countries decided to suspend their 737 MAX 8 fleet including China, Indonesia, and Ethiopia.

On Sunday, an Ethiopian Airlines plane of Boeing 737 Max-8 model crashed on Sunday, killing 157 people on board.

The accident follows the crash of an Indonesia’s Lion Air-operated jet of the same type, killing all on board.
