GCC markets likely to witness decline early 2019 – Analysts

Mubasher: The sever decline registered in global markets in 2018 is expected to continue in the beginning of 2019, pushing investors in the Gulf to be cautious, analysts told Mubasher.

The GCC stock markets are forecast to provide investors with attractive investment opportunities for purchasing, the analysts added.

Stock exchanges in the Gulf area, namely the UAE bourses, are projected to witness a decrease in Q1-19; however, this decline is expected to be lower than the US and European markets which face larger challenges, assets managing director at Menacorp Tariq Qaqish told Mubasher.

Government visions in the GCC are expected to attract investors, with the UAE opening visas for up to ten years; however, this shall be in line with the stability of global markets, Qaqish added.

Investors are anticipating for a clear vision regarding major cases in early 2019, including the commercial conflict between the US and China, CEO of MindCraft Consultants Fadi El-Ghattis told Mubasher.

The government-backed UAE Vision 2021 focuses on developing a wide range of sectors in the coming years until Dubai Expo 2020 is held, capital market analyst Lini Asaad told Mubasher.

Saudi Vision 2030 and Kuwait Vision 2035 are also expected to boost capital markets in the two countries and the GCC, the analyst added.
