GCC petchem sector to continue rising despite challenges – Experts

Dubai-Mubasher: Despite the current challenges arising from volatile oil prices, the GCC petrochemical sector is expected to continue rising, thanks to the attractive investment environment and future demand, said experts at the 10th annual forum organised by Gulf Petrochemicals & Chemicals Association (GPCA).

Saudi Arabia established a giant, top-notch network to transfer and process gas, with a daily production capacity of 9 billion cubic feet, which represents a qualitative leap in the kingdom's industries and economies, said Abdullatif Al Othman, governor of Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority.

The GCC petrochemical sector produced 136.2 million tonnes of products in 2014, generating revenues of $87.4 billion, according to GPCA estimates.

Al Othman highlighted the kingdom's ambitious plan which aims to double job opportunities, investment and economic growth over the next 10 years.
