GM, Fiat Chrysler sales drop in October; Ford's rise

Mubasher: General Motors Company (GMC) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV posted their financial data, which showed a decline in sales in October.

General Motors’ sales decreased by 2.2% last month on slumping Buick and Chevrolet deliveries, while Fiat Chrysler's saw a 13% year-on-year drop after its fleet sales retreated 43% year-on-year, according to official statements.

On the other hand, Ford Motor Company’s sales jumped 6.2% in October versus the comparative period of 2016 pushed up by higher truck and fleet sales.

“Strong customer demand for high series Super Duty continues, and now we’re seeing the same for the new 2018 F-150,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president of US marketing, sales, and service.

“With sales up 15.9%, F-Series drove our overall truck sales to an 11.4% gain for the month,” the top official added.

In October, Fiat Chrysler, GMC, and Ford Motor sold 153,373, 252,813, and 200,436 vehicles, respectively, as the tripartite disclosed.

“We are heading into the fourth quarter with good momentum, thanks to a strong U.S. economy and very strong pickup and crossover sales,” said Kurt McNeil, General Motor’s US vice president of sales operations.

Tim Fleming, analyst for Kelley Blue Book, said that October was a positive month for the automotive industry despite the decline in sales.
