GOIC: SMEs investments reached $15.6bn in 2015

Doha - Mubasher: The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) announced that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the GCC region had investments totalling $15.6 billion in 2015, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

GOIC’s 2015 statistics revealed that about $15.6 billion were invested in the SMEs sector, the equivalent of 4% of the total industrial investments in the GCC, which is valued at $393.7 billion, GOIC secretary general Abdulaziz Bin Hamad Al-Ageel explained.

Around $6 billion were invested in small enterprises and about $9.5 billion in medium enterprises, he added.

Industrial SMEs totalled approximately 13,995 in the GCC in 2015. With 11,288 small and 2,707 medium enterprises that added up to form 82.9% of the total 16,890 manufacturing factories in the GCC, the report indicated according to QNA.

According to GOIC, SMEs are mainly focused in the areas of construction metals, transportation and other industrial activities with 3,369 factories or 24% of the total, followed by the manufacture of non-metallic products with 2,316 factories or 16.5%.

Then comes the manufacture of rubber and plastic products with 11%, and food and beverages with 10.9% of the total number of SMEs.
