Germany’s Wintershall wins 10% stake in Adnoc’s Ghasha gas concession

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has awarded Germany’s Wintershall Holding GmbH a 10% stake in the Ghasha ultra-sour gas megaproject.

The Ghasha Concession comprises Hail, Ghasha, Dalma and other offshore sour gas fields including Nasr, SARB and Mubarraz, according to an official statement.

Under the deal, the German company will pay 10% of the project capital, development, and operational expenses.

”The gas, extracted from the concession area, at commercial rates, will make a significant contribution to fulfilling our commitment to ensuring a sustainable and economic gas supply, and achieving our objective of gas self-sufficiency for the UAE,” the UAE Minister of State and Adnoc’s CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said.

Wintershall, a wholly owned unit of BASF, is the largest German producer of crude oil and natural gas producer.

“Natural gas production in Abu Dhabi complements our existing portfolio in an ideal way,” Mario Mehren, Wintershall’s CEO, stated.
