Germany’s construction machinery exports to Middle East rise 5% in 2017

Dubai – Mubasher: German construction machinery exports to the Middle East have risen in 2017 due to a growth in international sales.

The UAE is Germany’s biggest importer of construction equipment in the Middle East, according to the Frankfurt-based Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA).

German exports of heavy-duty machinery to the UAE rose by 50% last year, the VDMA noted.

Germany’s machinery exports to the Middle East grew by 5%, while overall construction equipment sales in the Middle East fell by around 10% last year, the VDMA added.

The UAE is likely to remain as Germany’s key market for machinery exports in the Middle East, the VDMA forecast, pointing out that the UAE accounts for a third of total sales to the Middle East.

A VDMA economist said that “German manufacturers continue to be optimistic about the Middle East markets,” reported Construction Week.

“In a recent VDMA survey, 40% of manufacturers expect this region to be among the major growth markets in 2018,” he continued.

The VMDA also claimed that the construction industry in the Middle East is “in the middle of a boom”, hence, news of increasing German construction equipment sales to the Middle East has increased.
