Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia is set to host an art hackathon, or Artathon, in an initiative by the 2020 Global AI Summit in Riyadh.
The Artathon is a competition that will bring artists and artificial intelligence (AI) experts together to create art using AI tools and techniques and encourage creative innovation.
Beginning in January 2020, the competition will select 20 teams that will go through a three-day assessment competition then participate in an intensive development program between 26 January and 30 March to create visual art.
Artworks will be curated into an exhibition, which will be held as part of the Global AI Summit, taking place in Riyadh on 30-31 March 2020.
The Artathon program is supported by the Saudi Ministry of Culture, the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity and Programming, as well as Saudi universities and telecom companies.
“Artathon will mark the first ever AI art program for Saudi Arabia… AI has already been used to create paintings, drawings, music and poems and through Artathon, we aim to make Saudi Arabia a new global center for the development of AI Art as a field of study and creative endeavor,” said Abdullah Al Ghamdi, President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority.
