Cairo-Mubasher: The Egyptian government has allocated 30 feddans (1.2 million square meters) for establishing a city in Menya that covers the textile industry, the minister of industry and foreign trade, Tarek Qabil, said, according to an issued statement.
The textile industry accounts for 3% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in Egypt, and offers jobs for about 1.2 million workers and engineers who represent 30% of the overall employment in the country, the minister said on the sidelines of his meeting with the Chinese delegation.
He added that the textile industry has a share of 16% of the non-oil exports in Egypt, with a value of $2.6 billion, the statement noted.
