Cairo – Mubasher: A government official stated on Thursday that fuel prices in Egypt will rise starting Friday, 4 November 2016.
The price of Octane 80 will increase by 47% to EGP 2.35 per litre from EGP 1.60 per litre, whereas the Octane 92 will rise by 35% to EGP 3.50 per litre from EGP 2.60 previously, the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Mubasher via phone.
The price for diesel fuel will grow by 31% to EGP 2.35 from EGP 180 previously, the official revealed, adding that the price per cubic metre of gas for cars will increase to EGP 1.60 from EGP 1.10.
News of the increase in fuel prices has resulted in people flocking to fill their tanks before the new prices are implemented at midnight, a worker at fuel station in Bab El Louk has said.
Back in July 2014, the Egyptian government raised fuel prices. The government had announced plans to fully remove subsidies from fuel prices within a five-year period.
