Cairo – Mubasher: The Grand Egyptian Museum is being established at a total cost of $1 billion, the Egyptian antiquities minister said on Sunday.
Almost 80% of construction work inside the museum has been completed, Khaled El-Anany added during the meeting of the culture and media committee at the parliament.
The Japanese government has agreed to lend Egypt $450 million in financing on the back of the museum's remarkable position across the world, the minister highlighted.
The museum is set for inauguration in 2020, El-Anany noted.
He also pointed out that around 45,000 artifacts were transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum, including the statue of Ramesses II, and other 40,000 were restored.
