Gulf railway to commence operation by 2021 - Minister

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development Abdullah Belhaif Al-Nuaimi stated that the delayed railway project to connect GCC countries is set to become operational by 2021, despite the GCC dispute.

The 2,100-kilometre passenger and cargo network connecting GCC states was postponed three years and set to work by 2021, prior to the recent political issue.

In June, a dispute arose between Qatar and some of its neighbouring countries.

In 2016, the UAE halted work on its portion of the railway network, while Oman announced that it preferred to focus on building its domestic network.

“It’s going forward. We still have small hiccups here and there but the project, hopefully, is going forward,” Al-Nuaimi concluded.
