Dubai – Mubasher: Gunmen killed the head of Dubai government-owned P&O Ports' operations in Somalia's semi-autonomous region of Puntland, a local government official said.
The two men disguised as fishermen had shot Paul Anthony Formosa in his way to Bosaso port this morning, Yusuf Mohamed, governor of Puntland's Bari region told Reuters on Monday.
Paul Anthony Formosa, who was a manager at Bossasso for P&O Ports, a subsidiary of the Dubai-based DP World, was killed inside the port and the security forces also immediately shot the killer.
Al-Shabaab, a jihadist fundamentalist group based in East Africa, claimed responsibility for the killing in a statement.
“We are behind the operation ... we had warned him but he turned deaf ear. He was illegally in Somalia,” Abdiasis Abu Musab, spokesman for Al Shabaab's military operations, said.
